Just to summarise, a pregnant Briton jailed for smuggling heroin in Laos has been handed to UK. Orobator, 20, from Peckham, south London, was caught with 1.5lb (680g) of heroin in August last year. She avoided Laos’s mandatory death penalty because of her pregnancy.

What is it with people smuggling drugs, especially in countries where they know the penalty is execution? They must be completely stupid. If they get caught they expect the UK government to intervene to get them sent back to the UK. I have no sympathy with this girl at all. And for her to get pregnant just to avoid the death penalty is heinous. What kind of life is that poor baby going to lead?
To hear human rights activists saying she should have another trial is ridiculous. On what grounds??? Do they think she should be freed despite what she did? These penalties are in place for a reason. I hope she does have to serve her sentence. Given how lenient the UK government seems to be when it comes to criminals, I’d be surprised if she’s out early!
If the media didn’t get a hold of this story, she would of been dead by now. Both governments are wasting their resource on this drug smuggler. Nobody knows of her til 6 months ago, not even her own mother knows where her daughter where about.
I don’t feel bad for her or her baby. If you’re willing to do the crime, you should be willing to pay for it.
