It's scary bringing up kids!

I watched the Cutting Edge documentary on Jaycee Lee Dugard yesterday. She was kidnapped, aged 11, and by some miracle has been found 18 years later. The sad story is what’s happened in those missing years, detailed here.

As a mother, when I read things like this or the recent horrific nursery worker Vanessa George child abuse case at Little Ted’s nursery in Plymouth, the terrible kidnapping of Madeleine McCann, or the death of Baby P at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend,  I cry my eyes out.  I can’t imagine what the parents involved have gone through (and I don’t want to). It makes me want to keep my child inside the house, protect her and keep her safe, away from harm. The reality is you can’t do this. It’s wrong to wrap them in cotton wool but you just have to do what you can to ensure nothing like this will ever happen to your child.
