Yesterday I attended an Action Mums event for business mums. Run by Amanda Froelich, children’s entertainer to the stars and mumpreneur, the event was held at Mare Moto, the new club/restaurant on The New Kings Road on the Fulham/Chelsea borders and cost £20 (including a glass of wine and canapes).
Events in December are generally are pretty quiet due to busy social calendars, Christmas planning and parties, however there were still about 15 people, a mix of mums, including life coaches (quite a few as usual), a massage therapist, Italian teacher, photographer Everyone got a chance to mingle and then instead of the usual speaker, Cally, a makeup artist, showed us how to do “smoky eyes” for the party season. We then each had a three minute massage (nice, but not long enough).
I like these kind of events because it’s great to meet new mums in the same situation as me and find out what other people are up to. One thing that did come out of the evening, is that I am charging way too little for my PR & Marketing Services, which I’m doing as a bit of a sideline to journalism. After speaking to a couple of girls, I came to the realisation I need to reassess my strategy (i.e. my rates!). I work with business mums that are starting out, so the challenge is finding a balance between what they can afford but making sure I don’t sell myself short. You live and learn.
We left with a JoJo Maman Bebe goody bag that included, among other things, a SHE WEE (which made me smile)! I saw this product on Dragon’s Den a while ago. It’s a portable weeing device for women. In the years before my daughter was born, I was a regular on the festival-scene. and clubber. I can see how it might have been useful, but I’m not sure I need it now, but might review it anyway.
