Yo ho, let’s go! Disney Junior’s Ahoy to Neverland event

by admin on July 15, 2011

This is my first proper post for a good few weeks. The reason being I have a baby with reflux and colic, so I simply don’t get time to sit at the computer. More about that later.

I got invited to my first event as a journalist/blogger in a long time: Disney Junior’s Ahoy to Neverland family event at Siloso beach on Sentosa island, to celebrate the launch of the new Disney Junior channel on Star Hub. Certainly not the kind of event venues I’m used to in London.

It started at 9 am. My OH was complaining about Sunday being a day of rest, and at the time I was thinking who in their right mind, would organise an event on a Sunday at 9am, where the attendees would be families with young children (people without children, I assumed). BUT, it was so hot even by the time we arrived, that I was glad for the early start.

Despite it being on Sentosa, I didn’t think (silly me) it would actually be on the beach, so I wore my heels. They soon came off.

The event centered around a treasure hunt. The children accompanied by their parents (it was all about teamwork – in true Disney style), had to complete tasks, ranging from firing water canons to knock down bottles, to picking up clues in a maze. Hot and sweaty, with the sand burning our feet, we set off, whilst Mr C watched Baby C. I felt honoured that for once, Miss C chose me to go with her – she’s such a Daddy’s girl. It was good fun.

Challenge completed, Miss C collected a goody bag and we queued up to meet Mickey and Minnie. I’m not sure who was more excited. Miss C even got a kiss from Minnie.

“Mummy,” she said afterwards, “are there people inside Mickey and Minnie?”. She put me on the spot. “Yes,” I said, not wanting to lie,  but not having time to think of the best answer either. I think I burst her bubble.

Disney Junior (formerly Playhouse Disney) launched this week on Star Hub and features old favourites such as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and new programmes like Jake and the Neverland Pirates. You can check out the Disney Junior Asia website here for games and activities.
