Not only is today the first day of spring (if you live in the UK that is), it is the 45th anniversary of what must be one of the world’s most famous kids’ books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I wanted to acknowledge it on this blog as it has to be my all time favourite kids’ book. I just love it. I have no idea how many hundreds (or possibly thousands) of times I have read this book, first to my younger brothers, then to my eldest daughter and now to my second. I still don’t get tired of the story. Is there anyone who hasn’t read this book to their kids?
I’d like to thank the author Eric Carle for sharing his wonderful book with the world.
According to a national survey commissioned by The World of Eric Carle, the overall top ten foods families would choose for The Very Hungry Caterpillar to eat 45 years on would be bananas, carrot sticks, broccoli, pasta, burgers, fish fingers, eggs and soldiers, porridge, chips and cheese strings. Other suggestions included olives and sushi.
My kids suggested grapes, noodles (well, we do live in Singapore), yoghurt and…chupa chups! What would your kids include on the list?
