We went for lunch at Jamie’s Italian at Vivo the other weekend. I’d been avoiding it as I’m not a fan of dining in malls and I expected it to be yet another over-priced, over-rated “celebrity chef by name only” restaurant. BUT, we happened to be in Vivo as we were going to Build-a-Bear to get Baby C a pink teddy for her third birthday so we decided to give it a try.
As we hadn’t reserved a table inside we had to wait for 20 minutes – oh well, more shopping time for me! There were tables available on the terrace overlooking the water but it was too damn hot.
The restaurant has a rustic trattoria feel and buzzy atmosphere, the menu features an array of wholesome Italian food from salads to pastas and steak. I had a delicious Prosciutto, pear and walnut salad while Mr C had Penne Carbonara. Although neither was spectacular, both were tasty and very filling. The menu for kids offered several options and each meal included something very rare in on kids’ menus in Singapore – vegetables/salad! There was colouring for the kids and I was able to organise a brownie with ice-cream and a candle and the staff sang happy birthday which Baby C loved.
The verdict: I was pleasantly surprised by our experience at Jamie’s Italian. I’d recommend it if you want a family-friendly restaurant serving decent, reasonably priced food with attentive staff.
