My heart goes out to Lily Allen following her miscarriage. I don’t think there will be anything anyone can say/do to make her feel any better right now, especially as she was so far on her pregnancy. It’s made me think of my situation. I had one miscarriage before my daughter (now 2 and a half) was born and three since. They were all before 12 weeks, so I can’t begin to imagine how hard it must be to lose the baby your carrying at 6 months.
Everyone deals with miscarriage differently, but it can be a traumatic experience.

For Christmas last year, my Uncle, Aunt and cousins bought us a fabulous present of a night at the boutique hotel chain, Hotel du Vin. I love their hotel style, very elegant French boutique chic.
It’s only taken us this long to actually use the voucher. There are various hotels that are part of the chain dotted around England and originally we thought about going to the one in Poole, because I love that part of the world. But, we decided for a night it was a bit too far to drive and plumped for the Hotel du Vin in Henley, only 40 minutes away from London. I get so excited when I know we’re going to have a child-free night. It’s not that I don’t absolutely adore my 3 year old, it’s just nice to spend some time as a couple and have a lie-in every now and then. With Miss C happily ensconced with Granny, we set off.
Miss C, my 3 year old, has never choked in her life. I used to be concerned about her choking when she was a baby and I’ve always been careful to do things like cut up grapes and blueberries and tomatoes before she ate them. You do hear horror stories about children choking on grapes or tomatoes and ending up with brain damage, but it’s not something I’ve really given much thought to now she’s 3 (although I still make sure she bites grapes and tomatoes first before putting them in her mouth).
So when Miss C started choking yesterday lunchtime, it was terrifying. She and a friend were happily eating lunch. Suddenly I realised Miss C was choking. I thought something had probably gone done the wrong way and so I gave her a pat on the back. I quickly realised she was still choking, so I whacked her back harder. I could see she couldn’t breath.

With Halloween just around the corner, mums kids are getting excited, because they love dressing up in fancy dress. There’s still time to get your kids’ Halloween costumes, whether they want to be a proud pumpkin, wonderful witch or scary spider. To save you having to go shopping, here are links to all the Halloween costumes from the major online retailers and some of my favourite costumes for this Halloween.
This is too cute!

My daughter went to nursery when she 11 months old. I picked that particular one because it had a reputation as being one of the best in the area with big rooms, big outdoor space (rare in Fulham), great curriculum, high staff to child ratios etc. It also had technology that enabled parents to log on to the web and watch footage of CCTV cameras installed around the nursery. When she first started, being the distraught mother I was at leaving my baby, I was obsessed with logging on every 5 minutes to see what she was doing. But, the picture quality was rubbish, the images were stilted and there was no sound, the novelty soon wore off.
However, when my daughter was 15 months old, I was sitting at my desk at work and just happened to log on to the camera system from my desk. It was a lovely sunny day, so I wanted to see if she was playing in the garden. I spotted her on the blurred imagery because I knew she had a red coat on. At that age she still wasn’t properly walking.
I saw one of the carers put her on a 5ft high climbing frame. Then to my horror the carer walked away out of site of the camera. I couldn’t actually believe what I was witnessing and I felt helpless.

Following our disastrous experience of the Monkey Sleep Trainer (see my review here), I did some research and decided to buy the Gro-Clock Sleep Trainer to try to keep my 3 year old in her room a little longer.

What is it with women that walk around with sheer tops so you can see their boobs? And I’m not just talking peanut-smuggling (I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of that). You can see everything. I just don’t get it – they really might as well not bother wearing anything at at all. Time and a place and all that.
Do they know everyone can see everything and if so why are they doing it? I don’t think it’s the height of fashion. It can’t be to attract men because the places they go are generally full of mums. Or perhaps they’re oblivious, but then all they need to do is look in the mirror – and we all do that don’t we!
I saw one of the local Fulham mums in the playground on probably the last warm sunny day there is going to be for a while (she was a very attractive yummy mummy, as are most mummies in Fulham). She had a white see-through shirt on that revealed pretty much everything. I tried to avert my gaze, but couldn’t help staring – if she’d have noticed, she probably would think I was very strange indeed.
I’m honestly not a prude so I don’t think I’m being prudish (am I?), but if you’re going to wear a see-through top, wear non-see-through (or whatever the word is) bra! Take a look in the mirror ladies or better still find a beach.
Am I the only person that actually is bothered by this? Or are you perhaps one of these almost bare naked ladies and feel like stating your case?

Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well and I said out loud “I feel horrible”.
To which my 3 year old replied “You’re not horrible Mummy, you’re very pretty”.
I just wanted to eat her right up!
I got back from a wet but fun holiday in Tuscany only to find the government (remind me why I voted for the Tories?) are abolishing child benefit for families on the higher tax bracket. Are you an angry parent like me?
