Pippa Popins Christmas Fair in Parsons Green, London

by 21stcenturymummy on December 8, 2009

It was the first ever Pippa Popins Christmas Fair on Saturday (6 Sept), held in Parsons Green, on the green itself. We got there around 3 and it was nice to see it was full of people, especially families, despite the poor weather and muddy grass. Attractions included a huge, super-speedy carousel, mini ice-rink, Santa’s Grotto and brass band. There were around 40 stalls selling all sorts of Christmas gifts and food, from cashmere baby clothes and children’s bedroom furniture (including delightful handpainted designs from Sarah Sherrington) to mince pies and mulled wine (provided by the Duke on The Green).

At 4pm the carol-singing commenced and candles were handed out to the children. Pippa (organiser and owner of Pippa Popins Nurseries) had hijacked about 30 slightly-inebriated Santas who were running through the Fair whilst on a pub crawl, and they joined in happily. Apart from being totally out of time with the band, they managed to get everyone singing. My daughter insisted on sitting on my shoulders (where was her Daddy when I needed him), holding a candle right above my head. I had visions of my hair going up in flames (but thankfully Granny was on watch-duty). We left when it sadly started pouring with rain and we got soaked.
