Only in Singapore…

by admin on April 17, 2012

This toy “pop-up” shop is in the middle of a Liang Court, a shopping mall near where we live. It belongs to Royce Gym, an indoor play area near by. There is no door, no staff (whenever I go past), no security, although I’m sure there is cctv and the walls are waist high.

All there is is this extremely polite sign to deter potential thieves: [click to continue…]

Having a party at the Hard Rock Hotel

by admin on April 15, 2012

It was party time at the Hard Rock Hotel on Sentosa last weekend. It was their first ever pool-side liquid buffet (think free flow beer and cocktails) for the launch of the first non-casino loyalty programme in Singapore. It was also the first time I’d been to the hotel. It was a wet evening so not the best weather for a pool party, but even the rain is warm in Singapore. The dress code was Beach Glam. I opted for a maxi-dress, the kind you’d wear on the beach in the evening. I got it wrong, I was overdressed. I only wish we’d brought our swimming things, instead we had to make do with dipping our toes in the sand swimming pool.  [click to continue…]

Going to the chapel

April 10, 2012

This was the initial advertisement for the Escape Chapel Party, marketed as a “sacrilegious night of partying”, that was due to be held on Easter Saturday at the chapel at Chijmes. Surely some harmless fun? You’d think! Coming from the UK, that is exactly what I would think anyway.

A difficult situation

April 10, 2011

Right now, I am facing a huge dilemma and I need to make a decision FAST. As people who follow my blog will know, we (my husband, 3 year old and I) moved to Singapore in January as my husband was offered a job there. I was 4 months pregnant at the time. We thought […]

Singapore: Sleeping on the job

April 5, 2011

Image courtesy of www.jawaexpress.com If you don’t have a car in Singapore (a £40,000 car in the UK can cost over £130,000 here, so a lot of people don’t), the best way to travel is by taxi as it’s cheap and easy, and everyone does it. In fact, there are over 25,000 taxis in operation, […]

Singapore: Getting a live-in maid

March 16, 2011

We’ve succumbed. We’re employing a live-in maid, as do many people (both locals and expats) in Singapore. You just need to look around our condo to see how many expat families have them. It’s definitely one of the perks of living here (or perhaps it’s a gross indulgence). Used to be known as ‘Amas’ and […]

Singapore: Go Ikea!

March 11, 2011

No I haven’t gone completely mad, although I probably need to get out more! I never thought I’d ever have a positive thing to say about Ikea. The nearest one to where I lived in London, was Croydon, a stressful trek away through heavy traffic. On the rare occasions I did go, I would leaved […]

Singapore:Adjusting to Expat Living

March 5, 2011

I have to keep reminding myself this (our move to Singapore) was my idea. I pushed for it for a LONG time. My husband has started his new job, leaving Miss C and I home alone in a pretty dreadful apartment, with no TV and a terrible internet connection.  I am a SAHM for the […]

Enforced Blogging break comes to an end (I hope)

January 21, 2011

Hello Lovely readers! Thanks to our move to Singapore, moving 3 times in 3 weeks, a very slow samsung n150 netbook and a terrible Internet connection, I have had to temporarily halt my blogging. And I have really missed it. It’s been frustrating to say the least. I am now hoping to be able to […]
